The Centurion Nominated For Chester Beer Award

What a fantastic way to start off 2017 with the announcement that The Centurion pub has been nominated for a Chester Beer Award.

Chester is a great city for beer lovers with breweries within our city walls, uncountable pubs and bars where real ale and craft beer are king, amazing beer festivals and several different regular beer clubs and groups and we have the best pub grub imaginable.

So the fine people at Chester Beer Blog decided a couple of years back that we should recognise these great establishments and those who run them with some well-deserved awards!

The nominations were open to the public from December 1st to January 1st 2017 and we are absolutely delighted that we have been recognised in the category of Nominees for Best Newcomer / Pub that has upped its game.

Now we all know that we’re not a newcomer to Chester, as our recent 50th birthday celebrations can attest to, so we have been given the nod for the sheer amount of tremendous community work that has gone into re-opening and reviving The Centurion over the last few months.

We find ourselves in very good company in this category alongside Goat & Munch, The Cornerhouse, The Ship Inn, Ye Olde King’s Head Chester, The Frog, Brewhouse & Kitchen, The Sandy Box ltd, The Mill Hotel and Wetherspoons (The Square Bottle).

A panel of top beer talent in Chester will judge the nominations and decide upon who gets their hands on the coveted (and much deserved) awards.

The panel features Chester’s own beer bloggers, beer club hosts and beer festival organisers, all well experienced in all things ale and whereas impartial, profoundly passionate about their home towns’ pubs and beers.

2016 winners were:

  • Best pub: The Cellar
  • Best grub: Bear and Billet
  • Best Brewery: Deva Craft Beer
  • Best Beer: Spank from Blueball Brewery
  • Best shop: Chester Beer & Wine
  • Best Newcomer: Commonhall Social
  • Best Bartender: Aki from Cellar

The awards will be held on January 28th 2017 so let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best but as they say, it’s an honour just to be nominated!
