Ceni sent Home empty handed as Old House show the greater darting nous.
Often clueless, but never heartless. That's all that can be said of The Centurion 'A' teams loss to the Old House At Home on Monday night, as the home side ran out 5-4 winners.
For the Ceni's squad it was a tale of the modest versus the mighty, as they slumped to a four-nil defecit before clawing back the spoils to grind to within a game of parity.
Great Britton, Nutsack, The Dazzler, and Quandold all lost winnable matches 2-0, heaping a pile of pressure on the rest of the team to come away with a result.
And a result their efforts almost got. A magnificent seven was clearly out of the question, but a famous five was almost on the cards as One Dart's eyewatering 97 and 117 checkouts brought the score back to 4-1, before Twig and Bling's callous displays left Captain Pain chasing a leveller, and GianFranko Cola the opportunity to close out the match.
Unfortunately the O.H.A.H had other ideas, saving their most dangerous player for the most vital match, tampering with Centurion minds like Shoaib Ahktar might a new ball at a one-dayer, and crushing any lingering dreams. After a slow start from both players, the Old House'r took the initiative, a firm grip on the leg, and eventually the lead. The second leg was a little more one sided: century after century flew in, doubles were quickly dealt with, and The Old House were home, 5-3 victors as it stood.
The night wasn't entirely over however, theres an honourable mention for GianFranko Cola, who despatched of his opponent with some ease, and as a result left the Centurions feeling slightly sick at the thought of what might have been had the whole team shown up.
Still, 'class is permanent' and all that, and, as Captain Pain said in summary, "It was a good fight, but too little too late in the end...There's always next week...".
And next week it will be the Pheonix, who the mighty Centurions will quickly consign back to the ashes, or otherwise risk constant earache until the reverse fixture. Lets. Play. Darts.
